The car won four races in 1974 and had multiple top 5 finishes. It narrowly missed winning the Championship in 1974 by finishing third at Brands Hatch at the last race in October 2004. For 1974, the Chevron factory had no plans to make any F5000 cars. Until Team VDS owners Rudi Van der Straaten called Derek Bennett. The result was the two team VDS cars. These were the only cars that left the factory as B28s. The other "B28s" were upgraded B24 cars.
